Open State: Hepburn Wind Farm tour

Tour Australia’s first community-owned wind farm and learn about this innovative and award winning energy co-operative that has murals on its two turbines Gale and Gusto.
 
The 2010 members of Hepburn Wind are the owners and operators of Australia’s first community-owned wind farm, at Leonards Hill, south of Daylesford Victoria. Built in 2011, the group has a strong focus on; community engagement, regional economic benefits, local jobs, community empowerment and capacity building.
 
The 4.1 MW wind farm hosts two turbines called Gale and Gusto, who producce enough clean energy for over 2000 homes. Hepburn Wind has received national and global awards for their unique project and became a Certified B Corporation in 2016. The community welcome Open State visitors to the farm to learn more about the project and their plans to be the first 100% renewable Shire in Australia.
